Hi, I’m Kate Capogreco
I grew up in a home without religion, spirituality or curiosity about the mystery of life. Learning to trust my own inner voice has involved both challenges and joys, and has been the most exciting part of my life.
My Bio
I now realize that my lack of religious upbringing was actually a blessing. I’ve seen the pictures of God as a powerful, white man with long beard, but that image has no personal meaning for me. I’ve been allowed to grow my relationship with the Divine on my own terms, relating to my own experiences.
In my 20s I left my accounting career and my first marriage in response to an irresistible force that was pushing me away from all I had known. After moving to the Rocky Mountains, I became aware of the presence of Spirit in my life. I knew I needed to find a career that was meaningful and connected to people in a way that mattered. I did my Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counselling at St Paul University in Ottawa, Canada, where I continue to live. Then I spent more than 20 years working as a case worker with Social Services. As I approached retirement, I knew I wanted to work with individuals on a spiritual journey so I did a two-year certification in Spiritual Direction with the Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute.
I love walking in the woods, books, bright colours, history, birds, my family, talking about spiritual things, learning something new. You can often find me in a coffee shop, either by myself with a book or with a friend or two, chatting about life.
Through various life experiences, I have an awareness of mysticism, illness, the 12 Steps, death, dying and grief, mindfulness, gender and sexual orientation, the Enneagram, meditation and contemplation, expressions of cultural identity, living with “disability”, and spiritual seeking. Every life situation can move us on our spiritual journey and I will never finished learning.
For me, the one overarching, underlying and omnipresent reality is that of Mystery. How awesome is it that when we empty ourselves and open to Spirit, Spirit is there? Come, let’s walk together in the Mystery.
